The place
The Ghizer valley runs west from Gilgit toward Shandur. It is the quietest drive in Gilgit-Baltistan and the one most likely to end with you eating trout beside a river.
Gahkuch, Gupis, Phander and Shandur come in that order. The river is a clear green all the way. Villages are Khowar- and Shina-speaking, the guesthouses are basic, and the road is rough past Gupis.
