The place
Fairy Meadows is a meadow above the Raikot glacier on the north side of Nanga Parbat. Getting there involves a jeep road that people write articles about and an hour of walking afterwards.
The jeep track from Raikot Bridge climbs 1,500 metres in about ten kilometres, unpaved, single-lane, with no barrier. It is driven by local drivers who have done it several thousand times. From Tato you walk the last three kilometres through pine forest.
The meadow itself is small — a few wooden huts, some tents, and a view of the Raikot face of Nanga Parbat that fills the entire southern sky. Beyond it, Beyal camp and the viewpoint at 3,900 metres are a further half-day.
