The difference
Three ways up to Rakaposhi basecamp from Minapin. The mountain does not change. The group size, the food, who carries what and what happens if you cancel all do.
Compare these three| Journey | Rakaposhi Base Camp — Minapin Route | Rakaposhi Basecamp Trek | Rakaposhi Base Camp — Slow Route |

Marked values are the strongest in that row. Rows with no objectively better answer — transport, accommodation — are not marked at all.
Field notes
Reported · Gojal · 7 min read
Passu has forty households, two glaciers and a mountain on every postcard of Pakistan. What it does not have is a straightforward relationship with any of it.

When to go
The north has short windows and long closures. Timing matters more here than almost anywhere else you might go.
Spring
March – May
Two weeks of apricot and cherry flower moving up the valley with the altitude.
Summer
June – September
The only window the plateau is clear of snow, and the whole trekking season.
Autumn
September – October
Poplars turn, the crowds go, and the light comes in at an angle.
Winter
December – February
The valley closes in. Roads are unreliable and almost nobody travels.
01 — Discover
Trekking, road trips, expeditions and village stays across the north — every one led by people who live there.
02 — Compare
Prices, itineraries, inclusions and reviews side by side. What separates two journeys is usually not the price.
03 — Book
Reserve with a deposit, then deal directly with the people running your journey.
15 journeys across 7 valleys, and the whole of the north to choose between.
