Khyber Pakhtunkhwa · 2,100 – 3,000 m
Deodar forest, a cold river, and no road worth the name.
The place
Kumrat is a valley in Upper Dir, reached on a track that punishes vehicles. What is at the end of it is old-growth deodar forest along the Panjkora River, and very little else.
Camping is the point. The forest floor is flat enough to pitch on, the river is loud, and the Katora Lake walk above the valley is a serious day out at altitude.
What people do here
01
A hard five-hour climb from Jahaz Banda. Snow well into June.
02
Wooden shepherds' huts on a high shelf above the forest.
