The place

A green river bending through a flat-bottomed valley.

Phander is a lake, a river, a handful of guesthouses and a view that has been on the cover of every Pakistani tourism brochure for thirty years. It earns it.

The valley floor is flat and grazed, which is rare up here, and the Ghizer River runs through it in wide slow bends. The viewpoint above the village looks straight down the length of it.
